SuprSend vs ActiveCampaign

ActiveCampaign was built for a marketer sending email to a contact list. SuprSend does the same job on every channel, for engineering, product, growth and their agents.

Trusted infrastructure layer behind hundreds of platforms

Both products send campaigns, automated journeys and triggered messages to your customers. ActiveCampaign is email marketing software from 2003 with a CRM, and it added SMS, WhatsApp and transactional email as add-ons. SuprSend is one notification platform for transactional, product and customer engagement messages on nine channels, changed from the dashboard, from an agent, or from the repo.

Why teams choose SuprSend over ActiveCampaign

AI works where your team works

Your team and its agents build, change and send notifications from the tools they already use: the dashboard, Slack, code, Claude or ChatGPT. ActiveCampaign’s connector updates contacts, lists and campaign copy, but automations are still built in its canvas, so the team learns that UI first.

Reach customers on every channel with every message

Email, SMS, WhatsApp, mobile push, web push, Slack, Teams, in-app inbox and webhooks sit on one user profile. A password reset, a comment notification and a win-back campaign share workflows, preferences and logs. ActiveCampaign sells SMS, WhatsApp and transactional email as add-ons with their own credits and accounts.

Customise notifications per tenant, with per-user preferences

Each tenant has its own sending domain and provider, its own version of every template, its own channel and category defaults and a per-tenant feed, nested five levels deep. Each user sets preferences per channel, category and digest schedule. ActiveCampaign gives one brand per account and one subscription per list.

Failover, batching and version history under every message

A failed send moves to the next provider, bursts collapse into one digest, events are checked against a schema, every workflow keeps versions with rollback, and test mode blocks real delivery. ActiveCampaign sends from its own email infrastructure, with no second provider, digest, versions or test mode.

Build notifications in the dashboard, in your own agent, or in your codebase

A product manager changes a workflow in the dashboard. A developer commits the same workflow as a file and ships it through a pull request. A marketer asks Claude to build a list and send a campaign. All three are working on the same workflows, templates and logs, so nobody waits on a ticket.

The built-in agent builds, edits and debugs notifications from a description; product and growth ship without a ticket.

In the dashboard

Connect the MCP to Claude, ChatGPT or any client and operate templates, workflows, tenants and preferences from there.

In your own agent

CLI and API keep workflows versioned, diffable and reviewed in pull requests; coding agents make bulk changes.

In your IDE or codebase
In the dashboardIn your own agentIn your IDE or codebase

One SuprSend customer runs its marketing email end to end from Claude Code, with nobody in the dashboard.

ActiveCampaign is built in its canvas. Active Intelligence drafts an automation or a campaign for a person to finish there, and the Claude and ChatGPT connector reads campaign results, updates contacts, lists and tags, edits campaign copy and adds a contact to an automation. It cannot build or change an automation or send a campaign, and there is no staging environment or command-line tool.

Everything from one place

Transactional alerts, product notifications and engagement campaigns run on one set of users, one preference model and one log. A marketing team working in the SuprSend dashboard also runs the event-driven transactional messages, from the same workflows, lists and logs as its campaigns.

Lists built five waysLists come from rules on properties and events, a scheduled warehouse SQL query, a CSV, the API, or a Segment, Mixpanel or Amplitude sync.
User properties with no schema to declareAny number per user, holding any JSON value, nested objects and arrays included.
An inbox inside your productA notification inbox for web, React Native, Flutter, iOS and Android, with read state, tabs and a headless option.
Users choose channels per category; account admins set the defaultsMentions on push, billing on email, the rest in a Friday digest, with security alerts made mandatory by the admin.
Bring your own providers, with fallbackSendGrid, SES, Postmark, Twilio or the providers you already pay for, in an ordered list with a timer.
Batching, digest, translations, schemaFour digest options, translation files per language that ship with the templates, and events validated against a schema.
Logs that say whyRendered content, delivery status and the vendor error per message, with the reason a send was blocked.

What each is built for

ActiveCampaignActiveCampaign

ActiveCampaign is marketing automation and CRM software for small and mid-sized businesses. Its centre is the contact: an email address and a phone number on lists, carrying tags and custom fields, scored and moved through deals.

Its automation builder reacts to what a contact does, such as an open, a click, a page visit or a form, from a library of more than 950 recipes. SMS, WhatsApp, push and transactional email were added around that email centre.

SuprSendSuprSend

SuprSend is a notification platform for products where messages start from what users do and are built by more than one team. Its unit is the user of your product, plus the objects and customer accounts they belong to.

One event becomes the right message on every channel through a workflow that batches, branches, routes and fails over. Marketing runs its campaigns on the same users, preferences and logs.

Who works in it

ActiveCampaignActiveCampaign

Marketers build campaigns, segments and automations in the canvas, with Active Intelligence drafting them. Developers use the REST API and webhooks to sync contacts, lists and deals from other systems.

Agents connect through the MCP connector to read campaign results, update contacts, lists and campaign copy, and add a contact to an automation.

SuprSendSuprSend

Engineers integrate once through the API, a backend SDK in Python, Node, Java or Go, and the CLI, and keep workflows in the repo. Product, growth and marketing build workflows, lists, content and broadcasts in the dashboard, or have the built-in agent build them.

Agents connect over MCP from Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Cursor and create users, add them to lists, write templates, trigger a workflow and read the log.

Pricing and implementation

ActiveCampaign bills on the contacts you store, on a plan tier, and caps email sends at a multiple of them. SuprSend bills per notification per channel, counts a digest as one, and stores users for nothing. A product with 20,000 users each getting five notifications a month on two channels sends 200,000 notifications: about $400 a month on SuprSend Essentials ($100 plus 150,000 extra at $2 per 1,000) or $1,000 on Business. On ActiveCampaign the same product sits in a 25,000-contact band, with push and in-app outside the plan and transactional email on a separate Postmark bill. Compare on your own user count and notifications per user; SuprSend’s pricing page and ActiveCampaign’s have the tiers.

Migrating from ActiveCampaign to SuprSend

Some teams move everything. More often, marketing keeps ActiveCampaign for campaigns and the CRM, and the transactional and product messages move to SuprSend, with a webhook keeping the contact record current. The mapping is the same either way.

Inventory every automation, template, list and add-on, and mark which automations start from product events and which from marketing behaviour.

02

Stand up SuprSend development and staging. Connect your email and SMS providers with a fallback order, and create tenants and their defaults.

03

Import users and lists, and map list subscriptions to categories and channel defaults.

04

Rebuild the critical flows first: verification codes, password resets, billing and security alerts. Test them in test mode, then pull them into your repo.

05

Run both for a week on those flows, with the inbox SDK behind a feature flag and a webhook keeping ActiveCampaign current if marketing stays there.

06

Move the remaining workflows, cut over, and keep an export of ActiveCampaign’s reports.

Enterprise customers get migration support and a scoped plan; on other plans the Slack community and docs are the path.

FAQ

Is SuprSend better than ActiveCampaign?
SuprSendSuprSend

SuprSend is better when messages start from what users do in your product, reach nine channels and an inbox, respect preferences per category and per customer account, and are built by engineering, product, growth or their agents. It runs transactional, product and customer engagement messages in one system.

ActiveCampaignActiveCampaign

ActiveCampaign is better for a marketing team running email-led campaigns and nurture sequences to a contact list, with a CRM, forms, landing pages and revenue reporting in the same tool.

Can I keep ActiveCampaign for marketing and use SuprSend for the rest?

Yes. ActiveCampaign keeps the campaigns, the list and the CRM; SuprSend receives product events and sends everything the product sends, and a webhook or warehouse sync keeps the contact record current. It is two bills, one on contacts and one on notifications.

Can a marketing team run campaigns in SuprSend?
SuprSendSuprSend

SuprSend lets marketing build lists from rules, a warehouse query or a CDP, and send one-time, scheduled or recurring broadcasts on any channel in the recipient’s timezone. The same team runs the transactional workflows from the same dashboard.

ActiveCampaignActiveCampaign

ActiveCampaign gives marketing more campaign tooling: A/B tests, predictive sending, conditional content, forms, landing pages and revenue attribution.

Does ActiveCampaign support multi-tenancy?
SuprSendSuprSend

SuprSend scopes tenants inside one integration. Each has its own provider, domain, template version, defaults and inbox feed, nested five levels deep.

ActiveCampaignActiveCampaign

ActiveCampaign handles multiple brands through ActiveCampaign HQ: a central account pushes templates and automations to each location’s own account, with a one-time $4,500 fee and a 90-day onboarding.

Where does each run, and can I self-host SuprSend?
SuprSendSuprSend

SuprSend runs in SuprSend cloud on every plan. On Enterprise the same product also runs in your VPC, your data centre or bring-your-own-cloud, with vendor support.

ActiveCampaignActiveCampaign

ActiveCampaign runs in ActiveCampaign’s cloud, with US, EU and APAC data centres.

Which is cheaper?

The units differ. ActiveCampaign charges for the contacts you store; SuprSend charges for notifications sent and stores users free. ActiveCampaign is cheaper for a small list that gets a few emails a month. SuprSend is cheaper when many users each get a handful of messages across channels, because a digest counts as one.

How do I migrate from ActiveCampaign to SuprSend?

Contacts move through the users API, a backend SDK, CSV or Segment, and lists and providers move in a day. Automations are rebuilt, by hand, by CLI or by the agent from a description. Most teams run both on the critical flows for a week before cutting over.
